Jeff Moore

Born in El Centro, California surrounded by agriculture, and helping in my grandmother’s garden as a child definitely steered me towards a career in plants. Working at various nurseries, and Native Seeds S.E.A.R.C.H., building my experience with localĀ flora ultimately resulted in a 10 year stint as the “cactus guy” at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. During this time I was building my nursery and its inventory which allowed me to pursue the nursery full-time in 2014, basically meaning I could stay home all day to garden….which seemed like a good idea at the time. Now the nursery has around 250,000 plants comprised of 2,500 species of succulents.

Caudiciforms: Growing, Staging and Propagating Chubby Plants

We will talk about what these plants are, and how their morphological adaptations to drought make them fascinating to cultivate, but also makes their care a bit more complicated in collection. Most importantly we will go over how to make them look really “sexy” in a pot, and how to go about acquiring them. I will also briefly comment on the ethics of knowingly purchasing wild collected plants.
